PARISH NEWS THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 16, 2018

ARE WE LIVING IN A "BONHOEFFER' MOMENT? Please join the Publicly Engaged Church Table as we explore the life and teachings of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Who is he? What did he do? Why are we even speaking about him now? Join us to explore these questions either one of the following identical events to be offered in the Synod. These events will be moderated by Pastor Erick Johnson. Pastor Johnson will begin with a quick overview of Bonhoeffer's life and beliefs. This will be followed by viewing of the documentary "Bonhoeffer". The event will conclude with a question, answer, and discussion session. Lunch will be provided, and a free will offering will be accepted to cover lunch expenses.

THE FLOWERS ON THE ALTAR this week are given by Jean Willinger, in memory of loved ones.

BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS – "For every wild animal of the forest is mine, the cattle on a thousand hills. I know all the birds of the air, and all that moves in the field is mine." —Psalm 50:10-11

God loves all of creation. During Bavariafest on Saturday, October 6, we will pay special attention to the animal part of God's creation. Bring your pet to St. Peter at 1:00 pm for a special outdoor service of thanksgiving for the love that pets bring to our lives. All animals are welcome, be they furry, feathery, slimy, or scaly. Make sure they are on a leash or secured safely. If your pet does not like to travel, you can also bring a picture of your pet for a blessing.

GOD'S WORK. OUR HANDS. – Once again, St. Peter will participate in the ELCA's "God's Work. Our Hands." event by offering community service opportunities on two dates. On Sept 22nd, we need lots of willing volunteers to help us clean up some of the Post Addition neighborhood. In partnership with Trinity Lutheran, Habitat for Humanity and Thrivent, we are providing an opportunity for residents to get rid of trash and other items to make their neighborhood beautiful! For this event from 10AM-2PM, we will meet at Post Foods Parking Lot where we will have multiple dumpsters for trash and refuse. Charitable Union will be there to accept recyclable clothing and Shred-It will have a shredding truck on site. Volunteers are needed to help direct the flow of drop-offs, to drive through the neighborhood picking up items for those who can't make it to Post, and also to help with the fun stuff... a BLOCK PARTY! In addition to the clean-up, we will be hosting a "Rock the Block" party with hot dogs, face-painting and other fun activities. So please sign up in the narthex or contact Linn Kracht for more details.

BAVARIA FEST - Save the date of Oct 6th - our 3rd Annual Bavaria Fest is fast approaching! We need you!! We need volunteers and excitement to make this successful. What can you do to volunteer? Sell tickets, make or donate something to the silent auction and bake sale, and volunteer to serve during the Bavaria Fest - a sign up poster will soon be in the narthex. For questions, contact Harold Bruns, Sue Eifler, or any Christian Life Committee member.

EQUIPPING LEADERS FOR MISSION AND MINISTRY @ ST. PETER Friday, Sept. 28 and Saturday, Sept. 29, the Rev. Walter F. Taylor, Jr. and Rev. David Sprang will lead the program, to equip this community of scripturally-grounded, mission driven, spirit-led disciples, focusing on Biblical overview, Lutheran Theology, practical skills and gift discernment. Those who complete this 3 year program may be commissioned by their congregations for specific areas of ministry deemed appropriate. If you are interested in attending this event or would like more information on ELMM training, please contact Pr. Jennifer.
