OUTREACH- 'KIDS CLASSROOM KITS PROJECT' - Teachers often need to supplement classroom supplies, and the Outreach committee is offering the opportunity to help them stock their classrooms. The dates to bring items are July 22- August 12. The items are: #2 pencils, Clorox wipes in tub, box of bandages, glue sticks, box tissues, small pencil sharpeners, Crayola crayons, and cap erasers. All items will be divided and taken to one elementary school in each local school district. We will apply for a Team Action grant from Thrivent to supplement what St. Peter members contribute. If you have any questions please talk to an Outreach member.

KAMBLY - As you are doing your summer cleaning and shopping, please keep the supply of bingo prizes for Kambly Living Center in mind. Prizes for males are low; caps and tee shirts (medium, large, and extra-large) are great prizes. Pierced earrings with posts are popular with girls. Horse themed articles are popular for both genders. Past support through donations of time and/or prizes is appreciated and when the June activities were completed, the next question was: when are you coming back? Should you have any questions, please contact Jackie Luke or any Outreach Committee member.

SIGN-UP FOR SUMMER HOSPITALITY TODAY! - A sign up is posted on the Hospitality table with openings for AUGUST. If you have not done coffee hour in a while, or have never had the opportunity to do so, please sign up. Contact Debbie Duggan. Thank you for your help!

THIS IS A TRUE STORY (Some information has been left vague on purpose) - During early May at the close of Charitable Union's day, a man walked into the building and calmly said he had been robbed of everything he owned. He wanted some clothes to wear for the weekend. He was wearing a pair of sweatpants, a rumpled shirt, and a pair of shoes. He explained that most especially, he wanted a pair of underwear.

"A... pair... of underwear..." I numbly mumbled to myself "A pair... of underwear..." Now, please take a moment to ponder where a person has to "be" to ask a stranger for a pair of underwear.

Charitable Union's mission is to contribute to human dignity. This story is the best example I have so far of where the rubber hits the road.

Are you grocery shopping this weekend? Can you add ONE item to your grocery list? PLEASE buy Charitable Union a pair of men's underwear... socks.. shorts... or a tee shirt AND DONATE next week.

The Charitable Union provides FREE OF CHARGE clothing, personal care, baby formula, steel-toed shoes, and household items to Calhoun County residents living with Bridge, Medicaid, and WIC cards. Nearly 10,500 Calhoun County residents, routinely utilize the services of the Charitable Union monthly. The Charitable Union serves seniors, adults, the homeless, and children at our Free store, located at 85 Calhoun St., Battle Creek, MI 49017, and via events such as our Back-to-School and Winter Coat distributions throughout the county.

The Charitable Union is located at 85 Calhoun Street, Battle Creek MI 49017. The Charitable Union's Free Store is open Monday-Wednesday 9 AM – 4 PM every week. It is also open on the 2nd Saturday of the month from 9 AM – noon. People needing assistance should bring their Bridge, WIC, or Medicaid card with them, along with a photo id showing their residence in Calhoun County.
