PARISH NEWS THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 15, 2017

ALTAR FLOWERS - The flowers on the altar this week are given by the Struble family, in celebration of the birthdays of Andrea and Gwen.

ECUMENICAL SERVICE - On Saturday, October 28th at 5PM St. Peter is partnering with several of our ecumenical partners in the community to host an Ecumenical Observance of the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation. Together with our partners we will gather for Evening Prayer and then afterwards we will have fellowship time with a BONFIRE sharing apple cider, s'mores and cider donuts! Just the kind of rousing time that Martin Luther would have loved. Please mark your calendars and contact Pastor Jennifer for more details.

FOR THOSE WHO SERVE AT THE TABLE - Speaking to all of our dedicated volunteers who serve as assisting ministers, lectors, service hosts and acolytes and to those who may like to serve... The importance of having a host during worship service cannot be overstated! The impact of your contributions to the life of our church is enormous both in meeting the needs of people and in keeping the church service running smoothly. It is truly a spiritual practice that enhances the worship life for us all! So as we are moving into a new liturgical year and the coming holiday season, we are looking to revisit some of the ways this type of service makes a difference in the worship experience of our church family, as well as our guests. The Worship Committee will host a "Refresher Course for Those Who Serve at Our Table" led by Pastor Jennifer Michael from 9:30-11:30AM on Saturday, November 11th.

The plan is to split this two-hour block with instruction for service hosts beginning at 9:30AM, for lectors instruction begins at 10:30AM, and then for assisting ministers and acolytes instruction begins at 11:00AM. This is an opportunity to revisit some of the processes that each server must follow as well as an opportunity to share fellowship with one another. Please contact Pr. Jennifer to confirm your attendance for this training. And again, thank you so much for all those who currently serve our worshiping community and all those who might consider such service. We are church better together!

SPEK SPEAKS - Don't throw away an old shower curtain. Fold it up and put it in your car to use for potentially messy items such as paint, beach gear or when transporting potted plants.

THANK YOU for your bingo prize donations. The Kambly Living Center residents will appreciate those items. MOST IMPORTANT THOUGH, your presence is requested at the Kambly Living Center, 1003 North Ave. on Sunday, October 29 from 2-3 p.m. for our outreach project visit. We will spend 1 hour interacting with the residents as they participate in fall activities. You will get so much more out of it than you give! Should you have any questions, please contact Jackie Luke or any other Outreach Committee member.

WAREHOUSE NEEDED - Many of you know that the families we adopt for Thanksgiving and Christmas come through a program called 'Santa's Helper' coordinated by Darlene Williams. Ms. Williams has a warehouse that houses food, gifts, toys, and etc. She will be losing that warehouse at the end of the year. I would ask you to do a couple of things. First please pray that she will find something so this valuable program can continue. Second, if anyone knows someone that might have a warehouse to donate or provide at a very low rate please contact Linn Kracht. Thanks.

FROM SCHOLAR TO PROVOCATEUR: Luther Takes on the Church - The study continues; this week title is "From bondage to Freedom: Luther Rediscovers Grace".
