You are cordially invited to the 8th Annual JONAH Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, January 19, 2013 from 9-11 a.m. at First Congregational Church, 145 Capital Ave, NE, Battle Creek, MI. This event provides an important interfaith, intercultural opportunity to honor the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and to bring the community together to celebrate our common values and goals. The JONAH Prayer Breakfast also offers us the opportunity to begin 2013 in prayer as we seek to rededicate ourselves to the challenge of changing systems and structures that perpetuate unequal treatment and disparities among the members of our human family.
Our keynote speaker for this special event, The Rev. Eugene C. Staples, Sr., is senior pastor of the historic 145 year old Second Baptist Church in Dowagiac, Michigan. Pastor Staples is no stranger to social justice work as he is the former Clergy Chair of Transforming Action through Power in South Bend, Indiana, a faith based organization that utilizes community based strategies to address such persistent problems as low educational attainment, poverty, inadequate health care, violence, and limited civic engagement. In Pastor Staples’ own words, “I just want to use the Word of God to empower individuals and families for healthy development of mind, body and spirit...by teaching everyone that the affirmative application of the Word of God combined with commitment to community involvement can make this world a better place to live, learn and share.”
Tickets are $15 each ($20 at the door) or block of seven for $100 and includes a hot breakfast buffet. Seating at the JONAH Prayer Breakfast is limited. Purchase tickets early from any of the member churches or contact the JONAH office at info@jonahbc.org or (269) 660-1950.
We look forward to seeing you at the JONAH 2013 Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, January 19, 2013.
Wishing you Peace and Joy! The JONAH Prayer Breakfast Committee
